And after the stop at Petersham Nurseries nursery arrived at our destination . Ham House is a palace of the early seventeenth century, about 1610, built on the banks of the River Thames , southwest of London. Ham ‘s name comes from the district you are in, and it was not a wine hams as initially thought haha.
And after half an hour walk raining along the river, we arrived and it was closed because they were shooting a movie. Always, always make sure the times when we plan your visits. We could only enter furtively to the side garden , the Kitchen Garden.
The palace has survived the centuries, fashions, wars and monarchies, and has become a benchmark for style and history of palatial homes. They say it is haunted and that the spirits of its creator Elizabeth Murray , Countess of Dysart, and its successive owners, live in the house . So there are a lot of night visits to scare the staff haha. They also organize activities for children and walks in the garden, but without scares.
Ham House belongs to the National Trust organization, created in 1985, which is responsible for protecting houses, gardens , forests , historic sites and natural open spaces in general , for better conservation and promotion. All discovery on this trip. Quines was they were commissioned to restore the gardens in 1975 based on a plan of 1671 , creating a Baroque garden .
Have a good weekend !
